Frequently Asked Questions
What is HFMA?
With more than 40,000 members, the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) is the nation’s premier membership organization for healthcare finance leaders. HFMA builds and supports coalitions with other healthcare associations and industry groups to achieve consensus on solutions for the challenges the U.S. healthcare system faces today. We help healthcare stakeholders achieve optimal results by creating and providing education, analysis, and practical tools and solutions. Our mission is to lead the financial management of health care.
At the chapter, regional, and national level, HFMA helps healthcare finance professionals meet the challenges of the modern healthcare environment by:
- Providing education, analysis, and guidance.
- Building and supporting coalitions with other healthcare associations to ensure accurate representation of the healthcare finance profession.
- Educating a broad spectrum of key industry decision makers on the intricacies and realities of maintaining fiscally healthy healthcare organizations.
- Working with a broad cross-section of stakeholders to improve the healthcare industry by identifying and bridging gaps in knowledge, best practices, and standards.

What is HFMA Region 1?
HFMA Region 1 is comprised of the four HFMA chapters within New England; Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts-Rhode Island, and New Hampshire-Vermont. The HFMA members of these states produce an annual Regional Conference.
When is the next HFMA Region 1 Conference?
The Eighteenth Annual Healthcare Conference will be Tuesday, May 21 – Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Mohegan Sun Resort in Uncasville, CT. There are usually pre-conference workshops and a pre-conference golf tournament hosted by the HFMA Connecticut Chapter the day prior, so mark Monday, May 20th on your calendar too.
Who normally attends the Conference?
In recent years the conference has consistently drawn approximately 450 attendees representing senior healthcare leadership throughout New England and neighboring states. In addition we have exhibitors and top industry speakers in attendance.
Can I attend the Conference for 1-day?
There is not a different rate for attendees wishing to attend one day. All conference attendees must pay the standard conference price.
Do the education sessions count toward Continuing Education?
Attendees earn contact hours for the educational sessions. Participants should consult their reporting jurisdictions concerning acceptance of individual courses. All HFMA educational programs earn points towards HFMA certification and certification maintenance requirements. An attendance certificate is mailed to attendees post-conference.
How should I dress for the conference?
Dress is business casual for all events.
Please know that temperature can fluctuate in venue spaces . We will do the best we can to have the temperature monitored, but seeing that everyone is different if you are one to be easily affected by temperature we advise you dress in layers – just in case. Options include a blazer, sweater, or shawl.
Can my company become a sponsor or exhibitor of the HFMA Region 1 Conference?
As space is available there are opportunities to purchase an exhibit table or a sponsorship, inclusive of an exhibit table. Past sponsorships have included: name badges, lanyards, keynote presentation, cocktail/networking reception, notebooks, volunteer shirts, etc. These offering can change year to year.
All options offered are on a first-come, first-served basis. Space is limited, and we have been fortunate enough to sell out each year.
Please visit the dedicated Sponsor page for more information.
I’m interested in speaking at the HFMA Region 1 Conference, what is the process?
If interested in speaking at a future conference, please submit an online proposal form (https://www.hfmaregion1.org/forspeakers/submit-a-proposal/) by August 31. If selected, the incoming conference committee will contact you by mid-October.
Our breakout sessions are generally one hour and thirty minutes (1.5 hours) with a focus on senior level management hot topics (revenue cycle management, payment, reimbursement, regulation, leadership, innovation, and managing change). We do not choose speakers; we decide what topics would fit the theme of the conference then look for speakers to fit the topic. Please know that Region 1 does not pay honorariums and we do not give preferential treatment to companies that exhibit/sponsor.
Additionally we encourage you to get involved at the Chapter level. Feel free to reach out to the HFMA Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts-Rhode Island, or New Hampshire-Vermont Chapters – or others – for speaking opportunities.
